ASTON, Pa. – After finding themselves trailing for most of the game on Wednesday night, Marymount women's basketball pulled off an impressive comeback to slip by Neumann on the road, 46-44. With the win and a Cabrini loss to Immaculata tonight, Marymount women's basketball has clinched the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic East Tournament and earned home-court advantage through the playoffs.
NOTABLE
- Chandler Eddleton put together a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
- Marymount only made one 3-pointer on the night but it was a clutch game-tying shot from Symantha Shackelford to tie the game with 1:07 left.
- The Saints continued to impress at the charity stripe, making 11-of-12 free throws compared to 10-of-18 for the Knights.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount trailed by as many as seven points in the first quarter but cut the deficit to two points after an Ava Achtyl layup with 39 seconds left made it 14-12.
- The Saints took their first lead of the day with 4:41 remaining in the first half on a bucket from Samantha Bulik to make it 18-17.
- Neumann held a 23-20 lead at halftime.
- Marymount clawed back and scored consecutive baskets form Shackelford and Grace Damato as the third quarter ended to take a 35-31 lead.
- Neumann responded with a 10-0 run in the middle of the fourth quarter to hold a 44-39 lead with three minutes to go.
- A Claire Smith layup and Shackelford's lone triple of the day tied the game at 44-44 with 1:07 left.
- Shackelford then calmly drained two free throws with three seconds remaining to clinch the 46-44 win for the Saints.
UP NEXT
- The Saints will have one more road game at Marywood on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 PM before closing the regular season at home against Immaculata on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 PM.
