Men's Volleyball Earns Two Wins in Final Day of Randolph-Macon Tournament

ASHLAND, Va. – Marymount men's volleyball wrapped up their weekend at the Randolph-Macon Tournament with wins over Neumann and Cal Lutheran on Saturday afternoon.

The wins put the Saints at 7-2 on the season thus far. 
 
NOTABLE
  • Marymount outhit Neumann with a season high, .569.
  • Against Neumann, Nickolas Blose (ten kills, .909 hitting percentage), John Quinlan (four kills, .500 hitting percentage, six service aces) and Luke Morris (seven service aces, five kills) put together the Saints offense.
  • Joseph Crowder led MU with a career best 14 assists.
  • Devon Robinson led the Saints against Cal Lutheran with 20 kills while Mason Moore added 10 (.500 hitting percentage) and Hayden Kerekes added 12 (.421 hitting percentage)
  • Grayson Andrews (45 assists, 12 digs) and Camden Schulte (11 digs, 11 kills) were critical in the comeback over Cal Lutheran, as well. 
  • Andrews and Moore earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marymount quickly took control of the match against Neumann with a 14-point lead in the first set.
  • The Saints capitalized on the momentum with nine service aces in the second set and a decisive 25-6 decision.
  • In the final set Marymount came out strong and managed six points before the Knights made their first. The Saints didn't let up and brought the match to a close with a 25-4 set win. 
  • Cal Lutheran came out on top of the first two sets with a close 27-25 first set and a 25-22 second set.
  • The Saints took the third set with a .281 hitting percentage compared to Cal Lutheran's, .172.
  • In the fourth set, Robinson started MU off strong with four kills. The Saints stayed in the lead for a 25-22 set win.
  • In the deciding set, the set was tied ten times but with two kills by Jauregui Esteban and an error by the Kingsmen, the Saints took the set 15-13.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will return to Converse Family Fieldhouse next weekend for two conference matchups.
  • Marymount will host Juniata College on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 PM and Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 3 PM.
