Baseball Takes #21 Shenandoah Down to the Wire

WINCHESTER, Va. - Marymount baseball traveled to #21 Shenandoah on Sunday, taking on the Hornets in a non-conference affair.

The Saints played well against the nationally-recognized squad, falling just short by a final tally of 3-1.

Notable
  • Bryce Smith went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI.
  • Jordan Dickson knocked two hits in four at-bats, adding a run.
  • Starter Andrew Schaeb put up a quality start against the Hornets despite earning the loss, pitching 6.0 strong innings with five strikeouts.
  • Out of the bullpen, Kyle Lewis struck out three in 2.0 innings of work.
How It Happened
  • After going down in order in the top of the first, the Saints put pressure on the Shenandoah starter in the top of the second. Smith led off the inning with a single, then Blake Doggett worked the walk to put the Saints at first and third with nobody out. After a sacrifice bunt from Ryo Fabre and a Ryan Maylie walk, MU was cooking with the bases loaded and one away. The Hornets worked out of the jam to keep zeroes on the scoreboard.
  • The two starters continued to stay toe-to-toe for the next few innings, waiting for one of the other to crack.
  • SU hopped on the board first in the bottom of the fifth, but Schaeb managed the damage to keep the score at 1-0.
  • MU evened up the tally in the top of the sixth with an RBI single to left, scoring Dickson who singled earlier in the frame.
  • Shenandoah went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Saints continued to put pressure, but the Hornetswere able to hold them off down the stretch, finishing off the game with the score 3-1 in favor of SU.
Up Next
  • Marymount comes back home next Friday, taking on Hood College in a single game with first pitch set for 1:00 PM at Nationals Youth Academy.
  • The Saints will host Widener College at Nationals Youth in a double header on Sunday, Mar. 5, with first pitch set for noon.
