Women's Lacrosse Picks Up First Win of 2023

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Marymount women's lacrosse earned their first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, taking down Washington and Jefferson College on the road. 

The Saints move to 1-1 on the young season with the win. 

Notable
  • Riley Love led the offense for the Saints, notching six goals and two assists for eight total points on the day. She added two ground balls and two caused turnovers to her line in the win.
  • Arayla Garcia had two goals on four shots, winning 11 draw controls in the contest. 
  • Ella Baker collected two goals in as many shots. 
  • Emily Peters had a strong line in the game, notching a goal with two assists. She picked up two ground balls and caused a turnover.
  • Kaylee Heath, Jillian Blair, and Kaleigh Dunham each added a goal in the win.
How It Happened
  • The Saints hopped on the board first in the game to start their momentum, with Taylor Chepren finding Garcia with an open look, who quickly sank the goal to put the saints up 1-0 early. 
  • After a W&J goal, MU picked up two in a row with Peters and Love going back to back. 
  • At the end of the first quarter, the Saints held a 4-3 advantage.
  • The Saints outscored W&J 4-2 in the second quarter, capped off by Garcia's second goal, with the assist credited to Dunham. 
  • The third quarter spelled the same story, with the two teams going back-and-forth, but MU held the advantage heading into the finale. 
  • MU held the momentum for the remainder, with a plethora of Saints sinking unassisted goals to lead to the win, 14-to-10. 
Up Next
  • Marymount will open up their home slate on Wednesday, Mar. 1st, hosting Arcadia in a 4 PM matchup.
  • They will remain at Long Bridge on Saturday, facing off against Hood College at 12 PM for Morgan's Message game.
