CHAMPS! Women’s Basketball Takes Down Cabrini for Atlantic East Title

ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount women's basketball topped Cabrini in a hard-fought battle on Saturday afternoon to win the 16th conference title in program history. It's the first time the Saints have cut down the nets since 2020.

  • Ava Achtyl also chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.
  • Grace Damato won the Elite 20 Award for holding the highest cumulative GPA among student-athletes competing at the Atlantic East championship site.
  • This is the first conference championship in eight years as a head coach for Margaret White.

  • In the third quarter, it felt like the Saints were starting to pull away after Shackelford buried a short jumper with 3:23 left to take a 30-23 lead.
  • But Cabrini responded and ended the third quarter trailing 31-29.
  • Marymount looked strong to start the fourth quarter, building its largest lead of the game (11 points) after an Achtyl jumper with 4:51 remaining.
  • Cabrini kept chipping away at the lead and cut it all the way down to two points with seven seconds left after a three-point play.
