Men’s Lacrosse Drops First Game of Season to Messiah

ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount men's lacrosse suffered its first setback of the season in a chilly, snowy affair Saturday afternoon against Messiah.

NOTABLE
  • Jack Williams led the Saints with six points, all of which from assists. It's the first time a Saint registered six assists in a game since Chris Clark on Feb. 16, 2020 against Goucher.
  • Ciaran Connolly (three goals) and Paul Vey (two goals) were also strong contributors on the attack.
  • Marymount 2-of-5 on extra man opportunities while holding Messiah scoreless (0-of-3) on EMOs.
  • Matthew Davis recorded 15 saves in the net. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marymount took a 2-0 lead after early goals from Connolly and Gavin Taylorson.
  • Sebastian Radovic gave MU a 3-2 lead with 41 seconds left in the first quarter.
  • A man-up goal from from Paul Vey and another tally from Connolly with 49 seconds left in the half gave the Saints a 6-4 lead heading into halftime.
  • Messiah scored five of the next six goals in the third quarter to take a 9-7 lead.
  • After Connolly's final goal brought the Saints within one at 10-9 with 11:07 remaining, Messiah scored the final five goals and held Marymount scoreless to take the win, 15-9. 
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will hit the road for the first time this season to take on St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday, March 1 at 7 PM.
  • The Saints will return to Long Bridge Park to host Manhattanville on Saturday, March 4 at 3 PM.
