WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Marymount baseball team picked up their third win in a row on Friday afternoon, taking down the Bulldogs of DeSales in shutout fashion, 5-0.
The Saints currently run a 3-1 record in the early going of the year.
Notable
- Craig Sodano had a big day at the plate for the Saints, knocking a solo homer in the fourth frame. He had an RBI single earlier in the game to finish the day with two hits and two RBI.
- David Muirhead shoved in his second start of the season, finishing the day with 7.2 innings pitched with 12 strikeouts, allowing just one hit.
- Bobby Leitzel had two hits, an RBI, and a run out of the leadoff spot.
- Blake Doggett knocked a double in the contest.
How It Happened
- After an inning and a half of scoreless ball, Doggett led off the bottom of the second with a double down the left field line. After two quick outs from the Saints, Sodano knocked his first clutch hit of the day, scoring a diving Doggett for the Saints first run of the day.
- MU extended their lead in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bryce Smith, scoring Leitzel who reached on a single in the first at-bat of the frame.
- Sodano, with two away in the bottom of the fourth, was hit by a pitch, but the umpire made him stay at bat. The Saints faithful are thankful for that, as the righty knocked a liner over the left field wall to keep momtentum up for Marymount.
- Muirhead held the Bulldogs to no runs over his start, with Ryan Cuadros coming in and finishing up the win.
