BALTIMORE -- Marymount women's basketball made a short trip to face a strong non-conference opponent on Tuesday night as the Saints traveled to Centennial foe, Johns Hopkins. The Saints came up just short in a 74-63 decision.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Johns Hopkins looked solid right away as the Blue Jays took a 10-2 lead with 2:30 left in the first quarter before closing the frame with a five-point lead.
- A strong finish to the second quarter pushed Hopkins to an 11-point lead at intermission.
- Marymount clawed back into the game late in the third quarter as a 6-0 run got the Saints within four at 45-41 with one quarter to go.
- A three-pointer from Terra Dzambo to open the fourth got MU within one point temporarily. But Hopkins responded with strong defense down the stretch to pull away for the 74-63 victory.
- Marymount had three double-digit scorers, led by Chandler Eddleton with 20 points.
- The Saints finally missed their first free throw of the season with 2:31 left in the game. Marymount had made their first 31 free-throws as a team and now sit at 39-40 on the season from the charity stripe.
- Hopkins had narrow advantages in bench points (14-5) and 2nd chance points (12-2).
UP NEXT
- Marymount will return home for the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament starting on Friday evening.
- The Saints will host Worcester State in the first game of the tournament at 5 PM on Nov. 17. A loss will drop them to the consolation game on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 PM while a win pushes them into the championship at 7:30 PM.
- MU will look to defend its tournament title after winning last season.
- Other teams competing this season include Penn State Harrisburg and Case Western Reserve.
