ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount women's soccer made history Tuesday evening on their home field.

In a 2-0 takedown of the visiting Neumann Knights, the Saints earned their way to the Atlantic East Championship this upcoming Saturday.

NOTABLE

• This is the first championship appearance for the Saints in their history.
• Breanna Harkins had the first goal on the knight for the Saints, with Allina Mbuko credited with the assist.
• Minnie Morris put in the second goal for the Saints, assisted by Laney Placido. 
• The Saints continue to hold the opponents scoreless, notching their fifth shutout in a row. 
• Marymount outshot the Knights 18-to-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Saints held offensive pressure consistently for the opening minutes of the match, looking to find an opportunity but unable to put anything together.
• They came through in the 23rd minute. After Mbuko subbed in, she made quick work, punching the pass to Harkins who got the necessary light touch to get the ball into the net to give the Saints the lead. 
• Marymount continued their steady defense in the first half to take the game into the half with the 1-0 lead.
• MU added on in the 61st minute off of the corner opportunity. Placido put the ball in the perfect position for Morris to get the final touch, sinking the shot and giving the Saints the 2-0 lead. 
• Marymount held the Knights until the end, when they stormed the field to celebrate their accomplishment and begin their trek to the AEC Championship.
