Men's Soccer Draws Neumann to Close Regular Season

ARLINGTON — A hot start for Marymount men's soccer was wiped out by two late goals by Neumann on Wednesday night as the two sides fought to a 2-2 draw in a fierce rematch of the 2022 Atlantic East Championship.

NOTABLE
  • With the result, Marymount finished as the No. 5 seed in the 2023 Atlantic East Tournament due to head-to-head tiebreakers with Marywood and Immaculata.
  • Leonardo Torres matched his program record, set last year, with his 18th goal of the season.
  • Tony Martinez finished with the other tally for the Saints.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was a match played between the boxes as Marymount held a slight 10-5 shots advantage.
  • Torres found the back of the net thanks to some impressive maneuvering in the box before firing with his left foot to give MU the lead in the 21st minute.
  • Martinez scored his second goal of the season in the 44th minute to give the Saints a 2-0 lead at halftime.
  • Neumann only had three shots in the second half but scored on two of them.
  • The Knights got one back in the 79th minute. After the goal, a minor brouhaha ensued in the net resulting in one yellow card for each team.
  • Neumann added the equalizer in the 88th minute to dash Marymount's hopes of a home playoff game.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will travel to No. 4 seed Immaculata on Saturday.
  • With a win, MU would then face either No. 1 seed Neumann or No. 2 seed Cabrini Tuesday on the road.
