Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Settles for Draw at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. – Facing one of the longer road trips of the season, Marymount men's soccer settled for a 1-1 draw at Marywood on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Matthew Correa broke the scoreless tie with a shot from the right side of the box served in from Kevin Cassinera.
  • Marywood snuck one past the keeper in the 55th minute to draw even.
  • Marymount put six shots on target in a row in the latter part of the game but couldn't find paydirt and remained all tied at 1-1.
  • Despite Marymount holding a 28-15 shots advantage, Marywood made 10 saves as a team to slow down the high-powered Marymount offense.
  • The Saints also held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Bayron Banegas had five saves in the contest.
HEAR FROM COACH KALIN
  • "This is a huge disappointment. We controlled the game, created 28 shots, and only capitalized on one. That is not a successful path forward when we give up breakaways off of bad turnovers. We have Marywood confidence. Clearly, we aren't a very good road team and now that's the only way to a conference championship. If we had just focused for 45 minutes and gotten the job done today, we would have had a clear path to a bye and home field."
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will host current top seed Neumann on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in a rematch of last season's Atlantic East championship game.
  • The Saints are currently 2-2-1 and are the No. 4 seed and will be unable to climb higher than the No. 3 seed. Marymount will be fighting to earn a first-round home game.
  • The first round of the playoffs is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28, while the semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 31.
