Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Early Run Propels Men's Soccer to Statement Win over Centenary

ARLINGTON -- On a rainy Saturday afternoon, Marymount men's soccer handled conference foe Centenary 7-1 after scoring four goals over an eight-minute stretch in the first half.

NOTABLE
  • Leonardo Torres picked up his third career hat trick.
  • Manny Gaunaurd set a new career-high with five points on the day (2G, 1A).
  • Prior to today's matchup, no game between the two schools had been decided by more than one goal.
  • Centenary handed Marymount its only conference loss last season.
  • Marymount remains unbeaten at home, boasting a 7-0-1 mark at Long Bridge Park this season. The last loss on home turf came on Sept. 26, 2022 against Catholic - a stretch of 14 home games in a row without a loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Torres found the back of the net in the sixth minute thanks to an assist by Gaunaurd.
  • His goal in the 21st minute started the barrage that put the game out of reach. Tony Martinez made the last touch before Torres finished.
  • Kevin Cassinera, Torres, and Gaunaurd rounded out the first-half scoring with unassisted tallies to give MU a 5-0 lead at half.
  • Early in the second half, Alvaro Valdovinos caught the keeper out of position and slid in an empty-netter to put Marymount on top, 6-0.
  • After conceding a Centenary goal, Marymount scored its final goal of the afternoon with a nice play by Derek Rivera to find Gaunaurd for the 7-1 victory.
HEAR FROM COACH KALIN
  • "We came out super focused and with energy in miserable weather conditions. This was a great team win and coupled with some unexpected results elsewhere in the conference, we have a path to achieve all of our goals now. But we have to maintain this kind of confidence in the final third down the stretch.
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will have a week off before traveling to Marywood on Saturday, Oct. 21.
  • The Saints will then host Gallaudet (Oct. 23) and Neumann (Oct. 25) to close out the regular season slate.
