Women's Soccer Ties at Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - A late goal for the Saints gave way to a hard-fought draw in AEC action at Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday evening. 

With the tie, the Saints move to 2-8-4 overall on the season, 1-1-1 in Atlantic East Play.

NOTABLE
  • Caileigh Barnett made her lone shot on the day count, sinking the shot for her first goal of the season to help earn the tie. 
  • Breanna Harkins put up 10 shots in the match, with four total on target. 
  • Minnie Morris had four shots in the match. 
  • Laney Placido had three shots, two on target, with Eliza Diggs and Daniela Carillo-Torres each adding three, as well.
  • Eight more Saints added shots on the evening. 
  • Marymount outshot the Griffins 32-to-8 in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marymount got the offense started early, with Chloe White having an open look and taking a shot in just the second minute. A strong save by the Griffins' goalkeeper kept the match at 0-0.
  • MU continued to press on the offensive end, unable to find the back of the net, but the Griffins came through in the 36th minute, sinking a penalty kick goal to go up 1-0 in the match.
  • The game would head into halftime with the 1-0 score in favor of Gwynedd Mercy still in tact. 
  • It was Marymount throughout the second half, continuously pounding shots towards the GMU goal, but having a hard time finding the open slot. 
  • Barnett came through in the 84th minute for the equalizer.
  • One final shot from Anissa Cheikh was all the Saints could muster, settling for the 1-1 draw.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints remain on the road this upcoming weekend, heading to Centenary on Saturday for a 2 PM match.
  • They will rock a non-conference affair against Mary Baldwin next week on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
