Saints Prevail in Overtime against Cabrini

ARLINGTON, Va. – In a battle to determine first place in the Atlantic East standings, Marymount women's basketball overcame a 12-point deficit to prevail in overtime against Cabrini on Saturday afternoon.

NOTABLE
  • Symantha Shackelford led all scorers with 20 points and went 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.
  • Chandler Eddleton had an impressive double-double, scoring 18 points and matching a season-high with 12 rebounds.
  • The Saints outrebounded Cabrini, 48-33, and also went 26-of-35 from the free-throw line in a hard-fought game.
  • Marymount now sits at 6-1 in conference play and holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Cabrini (5-2). 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was tightly-contested and Marymount held a narrow 14-13 lead after 10 minutes.
  • Cabrini found its rhythm in the second quarter as the Cavaliers outscored MU 19-8 in the frame.
  • The Cavaliers went on a 16-4 run at the beginning of the frame to take their largest lead at 30-18 with 2:28 remaining in the half.
  • Cabrini led going into halftime, 32-22.
  • Marymount came out of the locker room ready to play and tied the game 33-33 on an Eddleton basket with 5:25 left in the third quarter.
  • Marymount eventually took the lead back and held a 41-40 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
  • Cabrini jumped ahead 54-52 with a bucket from Giana Rullo with 19 seconds left in regulation.
  • Terra Dzambo was fouled while grabbing an offensive rebound as time was winding down. She made both free throws to send it to overtime tied, 54-54.
  • In overtime, Eddleton made two free throws to stretch Marymount's lead to four points with 30 seconds left.
  • Cabrini then made a basket and forced an MU turnover on the other end to get the ball back with a chance to win.
  • On the ensuing possession, Shackelford picked up a steal with seven seconds left and drained both free throws to ice the 65-61 victory.    
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will travel to Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 6 PM.
  • The Saints will return to Converse to host Centenary on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 PM.
