ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount women's basketball gave No. 1 Christopher Newport all it could handle on Wednesday night, but the Captains pulled away late in the third quarter en route to a 69-52 win.      

NOTABLE

• Chandler Eddleton led all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
• Symantha Shackelford made three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points.
• The Saints went 11-of-15 from the free-throw line.
• The loss marks Marymount's first home defeat of the season. The Saints now sit at 9-1 in games played at Converse Family Fieldhouse. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Marymount started strong and led 8-3 early in the first quarter.
• CNU battled back and held a 13-10 lead after one quarter thanks to a three-pointer from Sondra Fan as time expired.
• The Saints took a 20-19 lead with 3:42 remaining in the half after Eddleton made a short jump shot.
• But CNU responded and held a 25-22 lead at halftime.
• An 8-2 Marymount run, punctuated by two free throws from Eddleton, tied the game at 36-36 with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter.
• CNU put together a 12-0 run over the next 3:33, including three straight field goals to finally take control of the game.
• The Captains led by as many as 21 points in the final quarter and finished with the 69-52 victory.

• Marymount closes a three-game homestand with a tilt on Saturday, Jan. 28 against Cabrini. Tip-off for Alumni Day is set for 2 PM.
• The Saints dispatched the Cavaliers earlier this month, 67-49, on the road.
