Box Score HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- The Marymount University Women's basketball team won its fifth consecutive game and improved to 10-1 in Atlantic East Conference play on Thursday evening with a 63-53 victory over Centenary University.
MU dominated the flow of the tilt for the full 40 minutes, highlighted by a 38-23 advantage on the boards. The Saints led for a little over 35 minutes of the contest and used a big second quarter to push ahead for good. Marymount outscored the Cyclones, 21-13, during the frame to take a 35-24 lead at the halftime break. A 6-0 run towards the end of the frame put a stamp on the Blue and White's dominance. Chandler Eddleton supplied back-to-back baskets, while Ally Vezendy capped the run with a jumper.
While Centenary's offense found some footing as the game wore on, the Blue and White established a 13-point lead late in the third quarter after a 3-pointer from Symantha Shackelford. The Saints cruised from there, as the Cyclones never got closer than nine points the rest of the way. Shackelford gave the game its final scoreline with a late free throw to wrap up the victory.
Eddleton continued her hot streak on the offensive side of the ball with a career-best 28 points. The sophomore finished 11-for-16 (68.8%) from the floor and grabbed five rebounds. It marked Eddleton's seventh-straight contest with double-digit points. Shackelford poured in 19 points with five rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Claire Smith led the charge for MU on the glass with a game-high-tying eight rebounds.
The Saints close out the regular season on Saturday, February 19, when they host Neumann University at 2:00 p.m.
