Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University women's basketball team pushed its win streak to three-consecutive games on Saturday afternoon in a thrilling, 92-87 overtime win against Gwynedd Mercy University.
The Griffins came flying out of the gates on Saturday afternoon and held a 66-58 edge at the start of the final quarter. The Saints were undeterred, however, and outscored the visitors, 24-10 in the final period of regulation.
The Blue and White used a 17-0 run that spanned nearly four minutes of the quarter to retake the lead at 75-73. Symantha Shackelford started the barrage with a 3-point-make with 7:35 on the clock. Terra Dzambo did the majority of the damage for the Saints with seven points during the streak. The sophomore eventually capped the run with a jumper with just under four minutes to play.
Back-to-back baskets from Chandler Eddleton and Dzambo gave the Saints a four-point lead with two minutes left on the clock. Despite MU's defensive efforts, the Griffins' Haley Crossley drained a layup with 10 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
Despite the Griffins' last-ditched efforts, the Saints recaptured the momentum in the overtime period. MU shot 40% from the floor and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line to seal the victory. Marymount started overtime with four consecutive points from Dzambo and Claire Smith. Gwynedd Mercy eventually pulled back within one, but clutch free throws from Eddleton secured the win over the Blue and White.
Eddleton led the way for the Saints with a career-high 26 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor. The sophomore also registered a new career-high with 17 rebounds to record her second-straight double-double. Eddleton rounded out her contribution with a team-best six assists. Dzambo joined Eddleton in the double-double club with a career-best 23 points and 10 boards. Shackelford rounded out the Saints' double-digit scorers with 19 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
The Saints hit the road for their next contest on Wednesday, February 16, against Immaculata University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
