ARLINGTON, Va. – In a hard-fought battle featuring 49 total fouls, Marymount women's basketball opened the 2022-23 campaign on Tuesday night with a resounding 72-49 win over Lynchburg inside Converse Family Fieldhouse.

NOTABLE

• Symantha Shackelford led all scorers with 20 points and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
• Marymount's defense was ferocious as the Saints recorded 13 steals and held Lynchburg to 32.7 percent shooting.
• Chandler Eddleton had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. She added five steals on the defensive end.
• Terra Dzambo had a career-high five steals in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The two teams stayed even throughout the first quarter and most of the second before a 9-0 Marymount run gave the Saints a 31-20 lead with 4:25 remaining in the first half.
• The Saints only shot 18.8 percent from the field in the third quarter but benefitted from 18 free-throw attempts to maintain the lead.
• Marymount pulled away in the fourth quarter to win going away, 72-49. 

UP NEXT

• Marymount will compete in the McDaniel Tip-Off Tournament this weekend.
• The Saints will open against Juniata on Friday at 8 PM.
• Depending on Friday's result, the Saints will play at either 2 or 4 PM on Saturday.
