Saints Open Season With Win Over Bridgewater

ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount men's basketball opened the new season with a strong win over the Eagles of Bridgewater College on Tuesday night. 

By a final tally of 64-59, the Saints used a final strong defensive effort to secure the win and stay undefeated against Bridgewater in its matchup history. 

Notable
  • Wyatt Hockenberry led the scoring for Marymount, dropping 20 total points in the win. He added three steals in the contest. 
  • Montell Cooper picked up 12 points on the night, pulling down seven boards in the meantime. 
  • Ra'shawn Cook led the Saints on the glass with 11, adding four assists. 
  • The Saints as a team improved to 46.7% from the field in the second half from 28.6% in the first. 
How It Happened
  • The deciding play came in the waning minute of the game, with Bridgewater threatening to inch closer. Cooper grabbed the ball for the steal, then drove down the court, dunking the ball and giving the Saints a solid lead. The lead would carry to the final buzzer.  
  • The entirety of the game was a tough back-and-forth between the two teams, but ultimately the Saints were able to come away with the win on the back of clutch play down the stretch.

  • The Saints will be back at home in a week, hosting Rowan in a Tuesday night matchup with tip off scheduled for 7:00 PM. 
  • Marymount will be hosting the annual Pablo Coto Tournament over the course of the weekend between November 18-20, schedule is live on MarymountSaints.com.
