ARLINGTON, Va. - The Saints played tough against the visiting Amherst Mammoths in Sunday's Pablo Coto Tip-Off, ultimately falling by the slightest of margins at 65-to-64.
With the Saints' first loss of the year, their record stands at 3-1, hosting Virginia Wesleyan this upcoming Tuesday.Â

- Marcus Stubbs earned the Most Outstanding Player award for the tournament after scoring 44 total points across their two games played. He put up 16 in the game versus Amherst, going 8-15 from beyond the arc across both games.Â
- Ra'Shawn Cook earned All-Tournament for his performance. He had 12 points and six rebounds in the tight loss versus Amherst, putting up 35 points in the tournament.Â
- Montell Cooper had 11 against Amherst, adding seven rebounds.Â
- The Saints went 10-for-18 beyond the arc in the contest, good for 55.6%.
How It Happened
- The Saints opened play with a quick 9-0 run to give themselves a strong lead, capped off by a three from Jack Bifano to force an Amherst time out.Â
- At the 10:47 mark, the Saints were looking at an early 20-8 lead after a made jumper from Isaac Harris in the paint.Â
- The Mammoths put together a strong run to put themselves withing four. After a time out, Cooper and Cook scored on back-to-back plays to give the Saints 24-16 lead with just over six minutes left to play in the first half.Â
- After forcing a turnover, Cooper drove for a layup in the final minute to give the Saints a 39-30 lead heading into the half.Â
- Amherst outscored the Saints 35-25 in the second half to ultimately take the advantage, with a three in the final seconds from the Mammoths being the difference maker.Â
