HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - Saints women's soccer put on an offensive display on Monday evening to put themselves into the Atlantic East semifinals, defeating the Cyclones of Centenary by a final tally of 5-1.Â
With the win, MU will move forward in the postseason for the first time since 1993, during the CAC era for Marymount Athletics.Â

- With the advance, the Saints head to the semifinals for the first time since the 1993 season in head coach Heather Lipp's first full season at the helm for Marymount.
- Eliza Diggs put forth a hat trick in the winning effort, notching the first of her collegiate career in her freshman season. The West Point, Va. native was also credited with an assist in the contest, furthering her center of the Saints' offensive display.Â
- Laney Placido was the other goal scorer for the Saints in the match, scoring two times to help Marymount take the win.Â
- After letting up a single goal in the first half of the contest, the Saints held Centenary scoreless in the second half to secure the win behind a strong effort from Grace Needham in goal, who knocked away two saves, and the back line led by senior Mia Londregan.Â
How It Happened
- The Saints went into the half down 1-0 after the Cyclones were able to put one in the net in the 29th minute of play.
- In the 54th minute, Diggs put in the equalizer after Isabelle Davis gave a strong cross, giving Diggs the open look.Â
- It was Diggs again who gave Marymount their first lead of the day. Placido found Diggs with yet another open look in the 57th minute, who shot it past the diving Cyclones' goalkeeper for her second goal of the half.Â
- In the 66th minute, it was Placido who found the back of the net after Hanna Asanovich sent a strong pass to the forward. The Saints were looking at a 3-1 lead with some time left to go.Â
- Diggs found Placido with yet another strong look at the goal, and the senior took advantage, sending a seering shot into the net for the Saints' fourth goal of the evening.Â
- To round out the scoring for MU, Diggs sent in the hat-trick defining goal unassisted to continue to build the comfortable lead for Marymount.
