WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Marymount University women's swimming team kicked off 2022 competition with a 204-26 victory over Gallaudet University on Saturday.
The Saints earned first-place in all 14 events on the day, led by sophomore Isabella Ochalik's three top finishes. She started off in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.74, before adding wins in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.82) and the 500-yard freestyle (6:02.62).
Junior Delaney Carey, junior Madison Grubb, and sophomore Arianna Koerner, each, tallied two first-place finishes, as well.
Carey took first in the 100-yard individual medley, moving into eighth all-time in program history in the event with a time of 1:10.03. She added a first in the 50-yard butterfly in 29.05 seconds.
Also taking a spot in the program top 10 in the 100 IM, freshman Ella DeNicola finished second in the race with a time of 1:11.26, taking over ninth in program history.
Grubb took gold in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.11 seconds) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.60), while Koerner placed first in the 50- and 100-yard backstroke with times of 30.30 seconds and 1:06.84, respectively.
The Saints' strong individual performances were rounded out by senior Madeline DeMarco in the 50-yard freestyle (1st, 29.11 seconds), sophomore Grace Tarantino in the 100-yard freestyle (1st, 1:04.94), and sophomore Caryn Sanclementi in the 200-yard individual medley (1st, 2:36.86).
The team won both relays, as well, beginning the day in the 200-yard medley relay. Koerner, Sanclementi, Carey, and DeMarco posted a time of 2:04.42. Then, Ochalik, DeMarco, Carey, and junior Ellen Bryce ended the day in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:54.97.
The Saints will be back in the pool on Friday, January 21 at Catholic University of America at 5 p.m.
