Box Score ASTON, Pa. – The Marymount University women's basketball team traveled to Neumann University on Wednesday night for the second game of a home-and-home series, taking a 69-48 victory.
Similar to the first meeting with the Knights, the Saints opened the game strong, scoring the contest's first 10 points, on the way to a 22-7 lead after the first quarter.
Senior Taylor Love and junior Katie McShea, each, tallied four points in the opening run. McShea totaled eight to lead the team through the first frame.
After allowing Neumann to get back within three, Marymount ended the first on a 12-0 spurt, with the momentum carrying into the second quarter.
With just over six minutes to go in the first half, a pair of free throws from sophomore Claire Smith pushed the lead to 20, 27-7.
Continuing to build on the advantage, the Saints took a 39-18 lead into the half, led by nine points from McShea and eight from Love. Through the first 20 minutes, MU held a 24-8 lead in rebounding and was shooting over 60 percent from the floor.
Marymount didn't look back after taking the commanding first-half lead, cruising through the second to victory and continuing to keep the Knights' offense in check. Freshman Terra Dzambo and sophomore Symantha Shackelford tallied five points, each, in the second half to lead the team.
McShea finished the game with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Love added eight points and nine rebounds, and sophomore Lauren Cunningham scored eight, as well. As a team, Marymount out-rebounded Neumann, 48-24, in the game.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday, March 6, playing host to Christopher Newport University for an exhibition contest; the game is set for 2 p.m.
