Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Marymount University women's basketball team returned to action on Monday evening at Salisbury University, falling on the road, 57-39.
After falling into an early 8-2 hole, the Saints responded with eight-straight points in the first quarter for their first lead, 10-8. All 10 points came from junior Katie McShea to lead the way, as the team's carried a 10-10 tied into the quarter break.
Salisbury broke out with an 18-point quarter in the second to build a lead on the Saints. Senior Ananda Claggett had two makes from long range in the frame, but Marymount found itself trailing 28-16 at halftime.
The Sea Gulls kept control in the third quarter, outscoring the Saints 15-7, but Marymount found its stride in the fourth in an attempt to battle back.
McShea and senior Kathryn Ryan sandwiched a three-pointer from senior Aidan Phillips with layups to start the scoring in the frame.
Freshman Chandler Eddleton got hot for a streak of six-straight points before classmate Kyla Treadwell hit a three to cut the lead to 53-39.
Despite the fourth-quarter effort, the Saints were unable to get any closer, and Salisbury held on for the victory.
McShea led the team with 17 points while adding six rebounds. Ryan led the team with eight boards, and senior Taylor Love pulled down seven.
The Saints will get back on the court on Wednesday, February 24, traveling to Neumann University for the second game of a home-and-home series with the Knights. The opening tip is set for 5 p.m.
