Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's basketball team played its home opener on Saturday afternoon, using a strong defensive effort to take down the Neumann University Knights, 63-22, at the Converse Family Fieldhouse.
Before the game, the Saints honored the careers of their four seniors, Ananda Claggett, Aidan Phillips, Taylor Love, and Kathryn Ryan, for Senior Day.
Marymount took little time to gain control of the game, opening on a 8-1 run, led by two layups by Ryan. Love added another score to cap the spurt.
Love registered a double-double in the game, with a game-high 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Saints continued to build on their start, for a 12-4 lead after the first quarter. Following a 19-point second quarter, Marymount held a commanding 31-8 lead, at halftime.
After scoring five in the second frame, Claggett led the team with seven points at the break. Love chipped in with six points and six rebounds in the first half.
The third quarter saw the Saints bring up their defensive intensity even more, holding the Knights to only two points. It marked the first time they held a team to only two points in a quarter since February 1, 2020 against Wesley College. The effort pushed the lead to 47-10 after three quarters.
Marymount did not look back, as six points from Love in the fourth led the way to secure the victory.
Claggett added double-digit scoring with 11 points, and junior Katie McShea chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds.
The Saints will next travel to Salisbury University on Monday, February 22; the opening tip is set for 5 p.m.
