OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Marymount University women's basketball team earned its second-straight victory to open the campaign on Friday evening with a 59-47 win on the road over Stevenson University.

A blistering start and a lockdown defensive effort paved the way for the Saints' 12-point victory. MU's offense beat down Stevenson early and often, while the defense stifled the Mustangs. The Saints held Stevenson to a paltry 27.1% (16-for-59) from the floor and a 14.3% (3-for-21) mark from beyond the arc.

Marymount jumped all over the home side with a 10-2 run that was punctuated by a pair of layups from Katie McShea. The Saints cruised from there with a 50% field-goal percentage. As the quarter wound down, Symantha Shackelford made a jumper to give the Saints an 18-4 lead.

The Blue and White continued their quickfire attack in the second quarter and outscored Stevenson, 16-12, which resulted in a 34-16 edge at the halftime break. The Saints continued their solid effort from the floor during the second frame with a 46.2% effort from the floor.

While the Mustangs attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, MU kept pace and traded blows throughout the final two periods. The Saints' matched their offense with a stingy defense, which never let Stevenson get any closer than 10 points. As the game wound to a close, Claire Smith scored the final bucket for Marymount to give the game its final scoreline.

Terra Dzambo and Chandler Eddleton led the way for MU won offense with 11 points apiece. Eddleton added seven rebounds while Dzambo added four boards and two assists. Smith finished two points shy of a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds. Shackelford finished with nine points and a team-high four assists, while Kyla Treadwell chipped in nine points off of the bench.

Marymount continues the Stevenson Tip-off Tournament on Sunday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m. against Johns Hopkins University.
