ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's swimming team opened its season on Saturday at the Lee Center Pool, falling to Salisbury University, 140-122.
The Saints started off strong with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as sophomores Isabella Ochalik and Caryn Sanclementi, junior Delaney Carey, and senior Madeline DeMarco clocked a time of 1:59.42.
Ochalik continued a strong meet with two individual first-place finishes, tying with sophomore Arianna Koerner to lead the team.
Ochalik took first in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:25.43) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:28.87). She added a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, as well, finishing in 6:00.79.
Koener notched first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.46) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:27.27).
The Saints added three more firsts in the meet. Sanclementi took the gold in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.63. Junior Madison Grubb took second in the race, as well, in 1:16.83.
Grubb added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:49.65, while Sanclementi placed second in 2:50.75.
Carey notched the final first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.78. She also took second in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.14 seconds.
Koerner, DeMarco, Carey, and freshman Maddy Schirching ended the day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.61.
Marymount will return to action on Friday, October 22nd in a double-dual meet at the University of Mary Washington with Mary Washington and Southern Virginia University. The start is set for 5:30 p.m.
