Box Score MALVERN, Pa. - The Marymount University women's basketball team notched its 20th victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, rolling past Immaculata University in an Atlantic East Conference matchup, 83-46.
Freshman Symantha Shackelford led four Saints in double-figure scoring performances, dropping in a career-high and game-high 20 points on 61.5-percent shooting. She was joined by sophomore Katie McShea (19), senior Abby Fisher (18) and junior Aidan Phillips (11).
The only lead the Mighty Macs had in the game was early in the first quarter when a three-pointer put them ahead of the Saints, 5-4. However, McShea followed with a layup and a free throw and Fisher dropped in a layup of her own to put MU ahead for the rest of the way.
The second quarter saw the Macs find some offensive flow, outscoring Marymount, 19-16, but the Saints carried a 33-28 advantage into the locker room.
Coming out of the break, it was all Marymount, holding Immaculata to just nine points in each of the final two quarters, while the Saints knocked in a total of 50 points. The fourth quarter, alone, had the Saints going 11-for-13 from the floor at an 84.6-percent clip, as they finished the game shooting 51.7 percent. It's the eighth game this season Marymount has shot above 50 percent for the game, as it currently ranks 12th in the nation in field-goal percentage at 45.1 percent.
McShea was just shy of another double-double for the season, pulling in a game-high nine rebounds to go along with a game-high five assists. She currently ranks 11th in the country in double-doubles with 14 so far this season, while ranking 17th in the country in total points with 453.
The Saints have one game remaining in the regular season, hosting Marywood University for Senior Day next Saturday, February 22 in the Converse Family Fieldhouse. With a victory, Marymount would solidify the top seed in the Atlantic East tournament for the second-straight season and have the right to host throughout. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m., with the senior recognition prior to the start.
