Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. - The Marymount University women's basketball team used a strong second half on Wednesday night to earn a 66-48 victory over Immaculata University in Atlantic East Conference play at the Converse Family Fieldhouse.
A Saint defense that had 16 steals and caused 27 Mighty Mac turnovers, Marymount held Immaculata to single digits in both the third and fourth quarter. However, that's not quite how the game started, as the Mighty Macs outscored the Saints, 18-15, through the first 10 minutes of play.
Marymount quickly responded in the second quarter with 17 points to carry a one-point advantage into the half, 32-31.
Following the break, the Saints came out of the locker room fired up, outscoring the Macs in the second half, 34-17. A few quick buckets to open the third by senior Abby Fisher and sophomore Katie McShea pushed a five-point advantage, and the Saints never lost the lead the rest of the game.
The big separation in the game came late in the third quarter, seeing MU hit a 10-point stretch to build a double-digit lead that put the Macs too far behind to overcome the deficit. In that stretch, six of the 10 points came from the free-throw line.
The fourth quarter was similar, with the Saints dropping in 15 more points to seal up the 18-point victory and move to 4-1 in league competition.
Leading the way for the Saints was senior Gabriella Haddad with a loaded statistical line of a game-high 21 points, nine rebounds, five steals, two assists, and a block. She was closely followed by McShea with 17 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Symantha Shackelford chipped in nine points and Fisher pulled in seven rebounds to go with eight points.
The women wrap up the first half of conference play on Saturday, January 25, traveling North to Marywood University. Start time is set for 1 p.m., in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
