WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Marymount University women's swimming team fell on Saturday afternoon to Division I Howard University, 167-48, the Saints first competition since November.
The Saints battled in their first competition of 2020 with a handful of top three finishes, led by senior Hayley Elizondo with two top-two times.
Elizondo grabbed a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:15.24, just 1.5 seconds off a top finish. She followed it with an even close race in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall 0.4 seconds behind the top finisher for second place with a time of 1:09.61.
Senior Jessie Bricker also earned a second-place finish, clocking a time of 2:10.81 in the 200-yard freestyle, and followed it with a third place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.36.
Freshman Delaney Carey and senior Isabel Grimm rounded out the top three finishes, as Carey came in just three seconds off of first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.64 for third and Grimm clocked a time of 1:06.97 in the 100-yard backstroke for a third-place finish.
The Saints close out Atlantic East Conference competition on Saturday, January 25, hosting Immaculata University for Senior Day in the Rose Bente Lee Center. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
