SALISBURY, Md. - Senior Hayley Elizondo picked up right where she left off in her junior season Wednesday evening, collecting two first-place finishes, as the Marymount University women's swimming team fell in its season opener on the road at Salisbury University, 116-67.
Elizondo, who took first in every individual event last season except for one that she took second place, opened up her year final season going 2-for-2 including breaking a nine-year pool record. Her first top finish came in the 200-meter individual medley, clocking a time of 2:30.06 for nine points, as she just missed a pool record that was set in 2001 by less than a second. She kept that energy in her second event, racing to a time of 1:15.93 to shatter a Salisbury pool record set in 2010 by Danielle Dunn (1:16.56).
She was joined in the win column with senior Jessie Bricker, who touched the wall in a time of 2:24.88 in the 200 freestyle, almost three seconds faster than the second-place finisher for the Sea Gulls.
Senior Isabel Grimm added seven points for the Saints with a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:14.42) and a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle (30.59).
The Saints head home for their first tri-meet of the season, hosting Goucher College and Gallaudet University in the Rose Bente Lee Center for Homecoming Weekend. First event is set for 1 p.m.
