Elizondo, Plumley each take three first-place finishes against Sea Gulls

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's swimming team took on Salisbury University in its first meet of 2019, falling to the Sea Gulls, 107-96, at the Lee Center Pool on Saturday afternoon.

In all, the Saints tallied seven first-place finishes, with senior Taylor Plumley and junior Hayley Elizondo each notching three.

Elizondo continued her impressive season, as she has now placed first in all 14 races this season. She posted a season-best time in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.31 seconds. She also took the gold in the 50-yard freestyle (25.85 seconds) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.28).

Plumley got the day started for the Saints with the first individual event, taking the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:26.53). She then took first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:06.99 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:38.98.

Junior Isabel Grimm added the final first-place finish for Marymount, finishing the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.80, setting a career-best time.

Junior Jessie Bricker garnered two second-place finishes, starting with the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.08). She then placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:08.91.

Bricker also joined Plumley in the 500 free, finishing third in 6:03.18.

Senior Claire Cassidy and sophomore Claudia Beuchert rounded out the top-three finishes for the Saints. Cassidy placed third in the 100-yard individual medley (1:09.88) and in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.88), while Beuchert took third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:09.74).

In the relays, the Saints took second to start the day in the 200-yard medley relay. Cassidy and Beuchert were joined by freshmen Kahley Alteri and Carly Maytas for a time of 2:15.30.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Maytas, Alteri, and Grimm teamed with freshman Madeline DeMarco to place third (1:57.85).

The Saints will jump back in Atlantic East Conference competition on Saturday, January 26 at Cabrini University; the meet is set for 1 p.m.
