Women's swimming tops Gallaudet, 102-65

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Marymount University women's swimming team posted its second-straight victory on Friday night, taking down Gallaudet University, 102-65.

The Saints started off the day strong, taking first in the 200-yard medley relay. Seniors Claire Cassidy and Taylor Plumley and juniors Hayley Elizondo and Jessie Bricker teamed to finish the race in 2:02.39.

Marymount continued its success, taking first in six individual events, while winning the top-two spots in five events.

Freshman Moira Carroll led the way with two first-place finishes. First, she took the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.72, before winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:21.80.

Classmate Madeline DeMarco was able to take first in the 200-yard freestyle, racing in 2:27.95. She then placed second in the 100 freestyle, with a time of 1:05.56, just behind Carroll.

Junior Isabel Grimm, sophomore Claudia Beuchert, and Plumley tallied the remaining top finishes.

Grimm took gold in the 200-yard individual medley (2:33.87), while Plumley added a first in the 50-yard freestyle (27.33 seconds).

Beuchert took first in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:10.46. She also garnerd a second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:37.26).

Freshman Kahley Alteri added two more silver medals, finishing the 200 freestyle in 2:38.52 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:31.20.

Cassidy added the final second-place finish in the meet, taking silver in the 50 free (28.33).

Elizondo registered a top time in the 100 butterfly, racing an exhibition with a time of 1:03.31. Also, racing in exhibitions, Grimm and Plumley marked the top-two times of the 100-yard backstroke in 1:08.00 and 1:12.67, respectively.

The Saints finished the day, taking first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Beuchert, DeMarco, Bricker, and Grimm racing in 1:56.13.

The Saints will return home for their next meet on Saturday, November 17 to take on Randolph-Macon College at the Lee Center Pool; the meet is set for 2 p.m.
