Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior forward Nicole Viscuso registered a milestone in her stellar four-year career on Saturday afternoon, knocking in her 1,000 point. Unfortunately, the Marymount women's basketball team came up short for the first time since the beginning of the season, snapping its nine-game win streak with a road loss against Catholic University, 56-44.
Needing just six points heading into the final day of the Jamie Lynn Roberts – Fairfield Inn Holiday Tournament, Viscuso dropped in a team-high 11 points for the Saints including a tough move in the paint during the fourth quarter to notch her milestone. With move than half of the season left on her senior slate, she currently sits with 1,005 points on 45.7-percent shooting.
In the first half of the contest, the Saints (9-2) battled with the Cardinals (9-2) with six lead changes, but the largest lead Marymount had was by one point in the first quarter.
Before the half, MU drew the score even with a Regan Lohr jumper off a dish by senior Leah Hurst. However, a jumper of their own put the Cardinals ahead at the break, 23-21.
Struggling to find the hot hand for the day, the Saints shot 32.1 percent from the floor. On the defensive end, Marymount held strong, forcing a season-high 31 turnovers out of the Cardinals, while converting 18 points off the mistakes.
Hurst had a well-rounded afternoon with nine points, a game-high five assists, four rebounds, four steals, and a block.
At the conclusion of the game, Viscuso and junior guard Tyffani McQueen were both named to the All-Tournament team. This is the second honor McQueen has earned this season, being named Most Valuable Player at the Johns Hopkins Tip-Off Tournament.
The women will look to bounce back in the New Year, diving back into Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, January 3 on the road at Frostburg State University. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
