Walker Totals Season-High 10 Kills, Saints Even Record With 10th Win

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount women's volleyball junior Ashton Walker totaled a season-high 10 kills while junior Emily Abramaitys had nine as the Saints won their second-staight Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest with a 25-23, 25-18, 25-21 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) Wednesday night at Verizon Sports Arena.

Marymount (10-10, 2-2 CAC) totaled 46 kills, three shy of the team's three-set high of 49 versus Benedictine (Ill.) on September 1. The Saints also had just 10 attack errors, one shy of their season low against Cabrini on September 1.

Walker and Abramaitys combined for 19 kills and only one error on 33 attempts for a .545 hitting percentage. Walker was one shy of her career high in kills as she had 11 at Frostburg State on Oct. 23, 2016.

Meanwhile, junior Caroline Hanson just missed her Division III-leading seventh triple double of the season with 14 kills, 17 assists and eight digs.

Hanson totaled seven of her kills in the opening set that featured 12 ties and six lead changes. With the Seahawks (3-16, 0-5 CAC) holding a 21-20 lead, Hanson had the first of her three kills over the final seven points, the last coming on set point, to give Marymount the two-point victory.

In the second set, the Saints scored the first point on a kill by freshman Mykael Johnson and never trailed, leading by as many as seven. Walker, Abramaitys and freshman Myah Cordrey each had three kills in the set while Hanson added six assists and six digs.

St. Mary's took its largest lead of the night to open the third set, 3-0, before Marymount used a 5-1 run to take the lead. Thanks to a 6-2 spurt, the Saints took a 19-15 lead before the Seahawks answered with a 6-2 run of their own to tie the set for the sixth time, 21-21. However, Marymount scored three of the final four points to take the set and the match with all three coming on kills by Hanson.

Senior Christy Tieman finished with 20 assists and eight digs while Johnson had seven kills. Freshman Jasmine Roy had nine digs while sophomore Theresa Buscemi totaled six assists and eight digs.

The Saints continues their three-game homestand on Saturday when they host Wesley in a CAC contest beginning at noon.
