Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's basketball team opened up a three-game road trip on Wednesday night, falling to Frostburg State University in a Capital Athletic Conference tilt, 53-42.
A defensive battle in the first quarter that saw five total steals and seven turnovers had the Saints ahead of the Bobcats, 6-5, through the first 10 minutes, while senior Kiki Laux, sophomore Abby Fisher and freshman Regan Lohr all dropped in two points.
By the 8:47 mark of the second quarter, a bucket by Laux put Marymount ahead by three, 8-5, but unfortunately a 10-point run that followed by FSU would put the Saints behind for the remainder of the game.
Trailing by seven at the half, MU came out of the break with five-straight points, all by junior Nicole Viscuso. The forward opened the second half with finish inside off the dish by sophomore Tyffani McQueen, before cashing in on an and-one at the 6:56 mark to get the Saints to 22-20.
Marymount got within two of the Bobcats several more times in the fourth quarter, but Frostburg answered on the other end to maintain the advantage and take the 53-42 decision.
Viscuso paced the offense for the night with a game-high 19 points behind 5-for-7 shooting from the floor and 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. The junior also came two rebounds shy of a double-double, registering eight rebounds.
The women continue on the road on Saturday, January 28, traveling to St. Mary's College of Maryland for another league matchup. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
