Saints move win streak against Bobcats in league play to 13

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's basketball team continued its hot streak against Frostburg State University on Saturday afternoon, keeping its unblemished record dating back to 2010 in tact with a 57-47 victory in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup in the Verizon Sports Arena.

Since the Bobcats joined the league in 2010, the Saints have remained perfect against them, notching their 13th-straight win on Saturday behind double-digit scoring from three different players. Senior Kiki Laux posted a team-high 13 points, while sophomore Tyffani McQueen and junior Leah Hurst added 12 and 10 respectively. McQueen was as accurate as you can be, registering a perfect line on the offensive line, going 3-for-3 from the floor including two three pointers while going 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. Hurst was well rounded once again, notching another game-high eight assists to go along with a tied team-high four steals and three rebounds.

Marymount, who shot 41.9 percent for the day, never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an 8-0 lead before forcing the Bobcats to take their first timeout. Laux cashed in on three of the buckets and freshman Regan Lohr finished the other layup, as Hurst dished on the assists on all four shots.

Frostburg came out of the timeout and started to find some offensive flow, but the Saints stayed consistent as well, taking an 18-12 lead into the second quarter. In the second 10-minute stretch, MU would continue to separate itself, capping off the first half with a layup with four seconds on a dish from sophomore Abby Fisher to Laux to take a 34-16 advantage to the locker room.

On the restart, the Bobcats remained equal with the Saints, using the third quarter to trade buckets for a 12-12 score through 10 minutes. It wouldn't come though until MU reached its largest lead of the game at the 7:49 mark of 22 points when Laux dropped in the front end of a free throw.

In the final quarter, Frostburg gained some momentum, getting as close as nine, but the Saints kept their composure to seal up the 57-47 victory.

The women continue their three-game home stand on Wednesday, January 18, hosting Penn State University-Harrisburg for another league tilt. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m., in the Verizon Sports Arena.
