Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Behind a career day by freshman Regan Lohr, the Marymount (Va.) University women's basketball team cruised past Lynchburg College on Thursday afternoon, 69-42, to open the two-day Music City Classic at Trevecca Nazarene University.
Topping her career high set a few weeks ago in scoring by five, Lohr paced the Saints' offense with a game-high 25 points while pulling down four rebounds. The freshman shooting guard is now averaging 11.3 points and five rebounds per game.
The blue and white got off to a quick start, going ahead of the Hornets, 7-0, in the opening two minutes behind a pair of layups by junior Leah Hurst and a long ball by sophomore Tyffani McQueen. By the end of the first quarter, Lynchburg battled back for its only lead of the game after two free throws brought the score to 14-13, but a dish by Hurst to junior Nicole Viscuso for the inside finish on the next series put MU back ahead for the remainder of the game.
The defense picked up substantially in the second quarter, only allowing seven points by the Hornets, while the Saints put away 15 more to take a 30-21 advantage into the locker room.
The final two quarters were quite similar to the second, outscoring Lynchburg by 18 points to seal up the victory. Lohr shined in the third quarter, going 4-for-5 from the floor including a three-pointer to drop in 10 points.
The Saints posted a 46.9 shooting percentage for the game, while holding Lynchburg to 27.1. Viscuso missed another double-double to her resume by two points, registering a game-high 10 rebounds and eight points. Hurst, who still leads the Capital Athletic Conference in assists with 5.3 per game, posted her second game this season of eight helpers while adding nine points and six rebounds. McQueen also had a well-rounded stat line, dropping in 12 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
The women are back in action for the final day of the Music City Classic on Friday afternoon, taking on Castleton University at 3 p.m., Eastern time.
