Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's basketball team fell for the first time this season, seeing a fourth-quarter run by Stevenson University result in a 57-44 decision.
Maintaining the advantage through the first three quarters of the game, 37-36, the Saints dropped behind the Mustangs following back-to-back layups by Stevenson's leading scorer Sara Tarbert and were unable to take back over the lead through the rest of regulation.
Beside the stifling defense by the Mustangs in the fourth quarter, Marymount held onto the lead through 30 minutes of play, including a 7-2 first-quarter stretch. The only bucket Stevenson made in the opening quarter was on the initial basket, and the Saints answered behind the team's two leading scorers, junior Nicole Viscuso and sophomore Tyffani McQueen, with all seven points.
Viscuso and McQueen both finished with 11 points in the game, while Viscuso pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and McQueen snagged a team-high four steals.
For the game, the Saints outrebounded the Mustangs, 33-31, including 12 offensive boards. Those offensive boards transitioned into 11 second-chance points, while the defense only gave up four second-chance points to Stevenson.
The women will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, November 30, as they travel to Dover, Delaware to open Capital Athletic Conference play against Wesley College. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
