Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's basketball team kicked off 2016 by extending its winning streak to six games on Saturday afternoon, downing Wesley College, 72-50, in Capital Athletic Conference play behind double-double performances by senior Miranda Krott and sophomore Nicole Viscuso. The Saints improve to 9-2 for the season and remain perfect with a 4-0 tally in league play.
For the second-straight game, Viscuso set her career high in points to a higher bar, dominating the paint for a game-high 26 points. She added a tied game-high 11 rebounds to mark her second-straight double-double, sixth of the season. The sophomore forward also notched a game-high two blocks and a steal to round out her statistical line.
Krott came through with her first double-double of the season off 13 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Kievanna Lacey rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Saints with 13.
The first half was a battle back and forth, seeing eight ties and five lead changes, but it was MU that took the final lead with less than two minutes remaining until the break.
Trailing the Wolverines, 25-24, at the 2:24 mark of the second quarter, the Saints pieced together a 6-0 run to close out the period and carry a 30-25 advantage into halftime. The lead was reclaimed off a Krott layup, while Lacey finished off the scoring with a layup of her own and two free throws.
The second half saw the scoring fall in favor of the Marymount offense, outscoring Wesley in both quarters, 23-16 and 19-9, respectively.
Viscuso and sophomore Leah Hurst commanded the court in the third quarter, dropping in eight and six points, in that order, while the final quarter saw the scoring come from five different Saints led by freshman Tyffani McQueen with five, including a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.
For the game, MU shot 44.1 percent from the field, while knocking down four deep balls for 44.4-percent shooting from behind the arc. On the defensive end, the Saints dominated the boards, outrebounding the Wolverines, 41-26. Behind nine steals for the game as a team, the Saints forced 25 Wesley turnovers.
The Saints will look to extend their winning streak on Wednesday, January 6, as they travel to Frostburg State University for another conference tilt. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
