Box Score Arlington, Va. – The Marymount women's basketball squad dropped the CAC semifinal on Thursday night, suffering a 60-46 loss to two-seed Mary Washington. The Saints slip to 18-9 on the season with the loss.
Leah Hurst paced the Marymount attack with 11 points on the night, while Samantha Kane chipped in nine to supplement her eight rebounds.
The Saints struggled to find their footing from the field, as the Eagles outshot and vastly out-rebounded the Marymount squad throughout the contest.
The first points came from two Miranda Krott free throws at the 18:25 mark – giving Marymount the early 2-0 lead.
From there, the squads battled basket-for-basket and knotted the score four times before Mary Washington found its rhythm with about 4:30 left to play. An 8-0 Eagle run put the host up 24-16, though the Saints would cut that deficit to three, 24-21, before heading into the break.
The second half saw Marymount knot the score at 24-24 with 18:34 showing, but another 7-0 rally from UMW gave the Eagles a seven-point margin, 31-24, by the 16:55 mark.
The Saints used a long ball from Hurst to inch within three, 31-28, but the UMW attack never faltered. The Eagles strung together eight unanswered points to push the advantage into double-figures, 39-28.
A pair from Kiki Laux at the charity stripe brought the Saints within seven, but Mary Washington used yet another run – this time a 9-1 burst – to pull ahead 50-35 with 3:25 left on the clock.
The large gap persisted for the few minutes that remained, as the Saints never breached the double-figure deficit. The Eagles secured their ticket to the CAC finals with the 60-46 decision.
