Box Score Arlington, Va. – The Marymount women's basketball team built an 18-point first half lead to down Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon, dominating the opening frame to cruise to a 64-49 win on the road. The MU defense allowed just 13 points on 19.4% shooting before the break, as the Saints improve to 17-8 on the season and 13-5 in league play.
Coming off its big conference victory over Salisbury, Marymount needed to down the Bobcats to earn the three-seed and first-round home-court advantage in the CAC postseason.
The Saints dominated the paint, outrebounding Frostburg State 48-34 and besting the Bobcats with a 38.7% (24-for-62) effort from the floor.
The host took an early 6-1 lead, but saw Marymount erupt for a 13-0 run to swipe a 14-6 advantage by the 12:43 mark.
What remained of the first half saw the Saints absolutely dominate, closing the frame with a 17-2 rally and a 31-13 lead.
The second frame proved much more competitive, with the Saints only narrowly outscoring the Bobcats, 36-33, in the half.
The Saints upped the advantage to 23 points, 41-18, by the 15:37 mark, though the teams traded baskets for the duration of the contest. Marymount never relinquished its double-digit lead.
Kievanna Lacey led the Saints with 15 points on the day, while seniors Sam Kane and Dominique Dickens chipped in ten apiece. Kane and Kiki Laux hauled in seven boards each in the effort, while Nicole Viscuso grabbed a game-high 11.
With the win, the Saints secure the three-seed in the upcoming CAC tournament. Marymount will host the opening round on Tuesday night, set to square off against sixth-seeded St. Mary's (Md.) at 6 p.m.
