Box Score York, Pa. – The Marymount women's hoops squad returned to its winning ways on Wednesday night, downing CAC rival York (Pa.), 65-57, to improve to 4-1 in league play. The Saints now own an 8-4 record overall.
Miranda Krott registered her team-leading seventh double-double in the win, netting 15 points and hauling in a game-high 12 boards. Two other Saints also notched double-figure performances, as Leah Hurst and Kievanna Lacey chipped in 13 and ten points, respectively.
Four ties and six lead changes punctuated the tightly contested first half, with Marymount stretching its advantage to five points – no more – on several separate occasions. It was a Hurst triple with 1:47 remaining that gave the Saints space enough to finish the opening 20 minutes on top. Kiki Laux contributed another jump shot before time expired, giving Marymount a slim 30-28 lead heading into the break.
Shea Wassel punched in a timely layup at the 17:45 mark to give the host a brief lead, 34-32, in the second frame, but the Saints quelled the coup almost as soon as it began. Krott and Nicole Viscuso converted on back-to-back layups to put the Saints on top; York would not lead again for the remainder of the contest.
The Spartans would fight back to knot the score twice before watching Marymount truly pull away. A 12-2 Saints run around the ten-minute mark proved York's ultimate undoing as the Blue and White settled in with their first double-digit lead of the night, 52-42.
York would pull within five on several efforts from the charity stripe, but never truly threatened down the stretch as Marymount went on to secure the 65-57 win.
The Saints return to Arlington, Va., on Saturday as they host CAC foe Frostburg State. Tip time is set for 2 p.m.
