Box Score Arlington, Va. – The Marymount women's basketball team dropped a 75-48 decision to visiting Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon, falling to 8-4 in league play with the loss. The Saints now own a 14-5 record overall.
The first half proved sluggish to start, with only 20 total points on the board at the 10:00 mark. It was the Eagles that broke out for a 6-0 run to begin the contest, though the Saints came away cleanly with the opening tip.
The Saints responded in kind with a 6-0 run of their own, knotting the score briefly with 12:00 on the clock.
Eight lead changes transpired over the remaining first half ticks, with Mary Washington using a layup with 5:45 remaining to swipe an 18-17 advantage – a lead the Eagles would not relinquish for the rest of the contest.
The visitors extended their first half lead to as much as four points, 28-24, after a pair of free throws. Destiny Welch chipped in a single tally from the charity stripe to cut the deficit to three, 28-25, just before the break.
A 10-1 Mary Washington run kicked off the second half, as Marymount faced a 40-31 deficit with 14:15 showing. Moments later, the Eagles erupted for a 19-2 rally that spanned six minutes, forging ahead to a 65-39 advantage by the 5:02 mark.
The Eagles never let the Saints within 22 points the rest of the way, and even extended the advantage to 27 points several times before the final buzzer.
Kievanna Lacey led the Saints' effort with 14 points, while Miranda Krott registered a double-double with her 12 points and 11 rebounds. Leah Hurst rounded out the offense with 11 points on the day.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Southern Virginia for a midweek CAC showdown. Tip time is slated for 6 p.m.
