Box Score

Arlington, Va. – The Marymount women's basketball team could not solve the visiting Wolverines on Wednesday night, falling to Wesley at home, 56-46.  The Saints fall to 12-6 on the season and 8-3 in league play with the loss.

Turnovers plagued the Marymount squad throughout the night, as the Saints gave up the ball 22 times over the course of the contest.  Wesley's oppressive defensive effort seemed to make all the difference in the ten-point victory.

The Saints swiped the opening possession handily off a clean jump from Miranda Krott, but the host did not come away with the first points.  A missed triple gave way to a Wolverine layup less than a minute into the game, an unfortunate foreshadowing of the long game yet to come.

The Saints would need to battle back, eventually eclipsing the narrow margin with a jumper from Kievanna Lacey at the 12:56 mark – knotting the score at 8-8.

Shortly thereafter, an 8-0 Marymount run put the Saints up, 18-12, with 4:48 remaining.  The six-point advantage would prove the largest of the half.

Wesley closed the opening frame with a quick 6-2 burst, cutting the deficit to just two points, 22-20, heading into the break.

The second half saw neither team crack the scoring drought until the 18:24 mark, when Wesley chipped in a free throw to cut the margin to one, 22-21.  Several possessions later, the Wolverines would tie the score at 24-24 with 16:55 on the clock.

An ensuing layup from Lacey and a pair of free throws from Dominique Dickens put the Saints up four points, 28-24, but any such lead was about to disappear.

The visitors mounted a 9-0 rally to surpass the Marymount team, jumping out to a 33-28 advantage with 14:28 left to play.  A triple from the hands of Leah Hurst several moments later brought the Saints within two, 35-33, but the Blue and White would get no closer.

An 11-0 Wesley run seemed to seal the deal, upping the advantage to 13 points, 46-33, with just 5:52 remaining.  The double-digit deficit persisted until only three seconds remained on the clock and Kane sunk bucket from the paint to pull within nine.

Dickens paced the Saints with 15 points on the night, while Lacey chipped in 12 to round out the attack.  Lacey and Hurst also controlled the boards for Marymount, hauling in seven rebounds apiece.

Marymount returns to action this weekend as it hosts CAC rival Mary Washington.  Tip time is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
