Box Score Salisbury, Md. – The Marymount women's basketball squad came up short on Wednesday night, falling 70-57 to CAC heavyweight Salisbury (13-1, 7-0). The Saints fall to 9-5 on the season and 5-2 in league with the loss.
Miranda Krott registered a team-high 15 points for Marymount, while Leah Hurst and Kievanna Lacey chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The opening minute seemed to set the tone, as the host jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead.
A back-and-forth game throughout the first half, an 8-0 Salisbury run starting at the 10:52 mark gave the Seagulls a lead they wouldn't surrender. Krott had just given the Saints a thin 18-17 lead when the floodgates opened and Salisbury went to work, eventually swiping a 25-18 lead on a Kathy Albornoz jump shot.
With just under a minute remaining in the first half, the Seagulls would sink a triple to secure their first double-digit lead of the game, 39-29, which they would take into the break.
By the 14:20 mark in the second half, the Saints fought back to just a seven-point deficit, 47-40. Another Salisbury run, however, loomed on the horizon.
This time, the Seagulls burst for a quick six points, regaining that double-digit lead – an advantage they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest.
The Saints shot 41.8% (23-55) from the field, outdone by the booming No. 18 Salisbury squad, which shot an impressive 52.0% (26-50) from the floor.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday, slated to face yet another tough CAC opponent in Christopher Newport (10-4, 6-1). The Saints will host the Captains in Arlington, Va., at 2 p.m.
