Box Score York, Pa. – Fourth-seed Marymount University's women's basketball team fell 73-65 at 14th-ranked top-seed York (Pa.) in the semifinals of the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday night. The Saints drop to 17-10 and on the year.
Aileen Maknati led the Saints with 15 points while Katelyn Fischer and Daja Belt added 13 each. Fischer led the Blue and White with five assists and three steals while Kievanna Lacey and Miranda Krott hauled in five rebounds each.
York (24-2) took the early lead to start but the Saints kept pace to tie things up at 5-5 and again at 7-7 five minutes in. From there, the Spartans put together a 19-5 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 26-12 lead en route to a 43-30 halftime advantage.
In the second half, Marymount slowly began to chip away at the YCP lead and pulled within 10 down 49-39 at the 14:15 mark courtesy of a pair of Felicia Adomako free throws. The Spartans pushed their lead back to 15 but an 11-4 run, capped by an Aliya Roseborough three-pointer, pulled the Blue and White back within single digits down 58-50 with 6:51 remaining. York would hold regain a double-figure lead and hold MU without a field goal for the next three minutes to hold off the Saints down the stretch,
Kristen Haley led York with 19 points while Brittany Hicks added 18 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
Marymount reached the CAC Semifinals for a league record 22nd time, and 15th-straight, in program history. The Saints now wait to see if they earn an Eastern College Athletic Conference postseason bid on Monday.
