Box Score Dover, Del. – The thinnest possible margin separated the two CAC squads on Wednesday night, as Marymount downed Wesley 54-53 in the league battle. The Saints improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
The contest saw only three lead changes – all of which occurred in the first half.
The Wolverines swiped the early lead, draining a three-pointer at the 19:15 mark, but the advantage proved rather short-lived.
The ensuing tug-of-war eventually saw the Saints jump in front for good – courtesy of a 7-0 run and the resulting 17-13 advantage with 8:26 to play in the opening frame.
The host struck back quickly, shrinking the gap with a pair of layups, but it was Marymount that closed the half with an 8-2 run and a 27-19 cushion.
A Nicole Viscuso jumper gave the Saints their largest lead of the night with 16:14 remaining in the second half – an almost too-comfortable 32-21 advantage.
From there, Wesley slowly began to chip away, using a 10-2 rally to sneak within two, 38-36.
The paper-thin margin persisted as the remaining ticks fell from the clock, the Saints steadily remaining two steps – or shots, rather – ahead of the Wolverines.
When Wesley did crawl within one with only 2:52 left to play, Dominique Dickens sunk a pair of clutch free throws to give the Saints an ultimately insurmountable lead.
Miranda Krott once again proved the Saints' driving force, registering her fifth double-double of the 2014-15 season with her ten points and 11 rebounds.
Kiki Laux chipped in a team-high 13 points as well, with Kievanna Lacey adding 11 and Dickens and Viscuso each dropping ten apiece.
The Saints return to Arlington, Va., this Saturday when they host CAC counterpart St. Mary's (Md.). Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
