Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. – Marymount needed five sets to down St. Mary's on Wednesday night, swiping the first two sets of the night before the Seahawks mounted their almost-comeback. The Saints improve to 24-9 on the season and 6-2 in CAC action with the win.
Marymount and Southern Virginia are currently tied for second place in the CAC standings, with SVU holding the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Trading sets to force a fifth and deciding frame, Marymount never once trailed the Seahawks in the tiebreaker. The point-for-point battle saw the Saints hit the 13-10 mark and then close out the match with kills from Emileigh Rettig and Cailyn Thomas, respectively.
Three Saints recorded double-figure kills, led by Morgan McAlpin with a match-high 18 kills and Rettig with an equally impressive 17-kill performance. Margaret McAlpin chipped in 11 to round out the Marymount attack.
Rettig collected 14 digs to round out her eleventh double-double of the season, while Ashley Cabrera notched her first of the year – registering match-highs with her 47 assists and 21 digs in the night's work.
Saturday marks the final day of the CAC regular season. Marymount hosts Mary Washington at the Verizon Sports Arena at 1 p.m. for its season finale.
