Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's
women's swimming team wrapped up the 2011-12 regular season
with a 120-50 victory over visiting Frostburg State in Capital
Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Saints won
all but two events in the final dual meet of the season.
Opening with the 200 medley relay, the Saints fielded a squad
of seniors on “Senior Day” who claimed the victory of
the day. Sara Yoskoski, Anna Macedonia, Meghan Morch and Katie
Martocci posted a 2:02.81 for the win while Kim Rizzo, Kate
Schmidt, Jackie Finn and Caroline Rahmlow placed second at
2:15.06.
Amber Teller posted the first individual victory with a time
of 12:59.41 in the 1000 freestyle. Rizzo added the second win in
the 200 freestyle at 2:05.81 while Angelina Goidas placed second at
2:16.16. The Bobcats claimed victory in the 50 freestyle, narrowly
defeating second place Lea Mazzoccoli (26.55) and third place
Martocci (28.38) in the event.
Marymount returned to its winning ways in the 200 IM,
sweeping all three medalist spots. Bridget Wunderly won with a
2:22.40, Morch was second at 2:27.00 and Mazzocoli placed third
with a time of 2:34.80. Rizzo would keep things going in the next
event, winning the 100 butterfly at 1:05.38.
After another hiccup in the 100 freestyle where Mazzoccoli
placed second and Emily Wagner was third, Casey Thomas won the 100
backstroke with a time of 1:06.25. Katie Scott then won the 500
freestyle at 5:42.95 before Macedonia won the final individual
event with a 1:11.51 in the 100 breaststroke. Wagner placed second
with a time of 1:12.75.
Wrapping up the meet in the 200 freestyle relay, Wunderly,
Thomas, Goidas and Scott posted a 1:46.19 to claim the
win.
Marymount returns to action at the CAC Championships hosted by
St. Mary's (Md.) on Feb. 17-19.
